Dongbei, circa 1950

This lovely sideboard, in a soft, pastel blue green finish, was originally produced in the northeast (Dongbei) region of China around the middle of last century. It would once have been finished in red, with decorative paintings in gold, but has been refinished in a fresh, distressed lacquer that would fit easily into many more contemporary settings. Originally, only the central doors were functional, while the outer sections remained fixed. These outer panels have now been modified to open, allowing for more practical use today. Additionally, the central post between the doors can be removed for easier access to the interior, which features a single shelf.
