Gansu, circa 1900

This beautiful low sideboard is from Gansu in western China, made from pine and in a lovely, rich dark lacquer finish. The original paintings on the drawer fronts are faded but still visible, whilst the carved spandrels that taper down to the cabinet’s feet and the apron at the bottom are still fully intact. The drawer and door handles are new additions and the original colour has been enhanced with a new shiny varnish. Ideal as a stand for a flat screen TV unit with ample storage space in the four drawers and central section, which contains a single removable shelf.
