Qingha, circa 1850

This striking cabinet is from the western Chinese province of Qinghai. The unusual design, with narrow doors and drawers set centrally within the cabinet, is a distinctive feature of furniture from Qinghai and gives a quite modern, pure look that belies the cabinet’s age. The handles and hinges are replacments for the originals, but the cabinet is otherwise in a quite original condition, with the old red lacquer finish worn in places to show the wood beneath. Great for general storage, the warm red tones make this a lovely accent piece in any setting.
