Shanxi, circa 1920

At almost two metres in height, this wonderful imposing cabinet is in a minimalist style with the exception of the beautifully carved bottom apron, which features an intricate pattern of stylised dragons in open carving, giving an almost lace like effect.  The narrow doors are set centrally within panels using wooden dowels rather than being mounted on the outer frames with metal hinges. This gives a very sleek, pure look that is enhanced by the dark teal finish – a recent addition after restoration. Distinctive brass door hardware adds a decorative element.  Inside are two removable shelves and ample storage, making the cabinet a great choice for a large bedroom or living area.
